Frequently Ask & Questions
How often should I get my water tested?
- If your house uses a private well, you should consider testing your water once a year to assure you have safe drinking water.
- We recommend our conventional (basic) package, which includes tests for total coliform and Escherichia coli bacteria, nitrates, pH, sand, and turbidity.
- You should especially test your water if you have a new well or have replaced or repaired pipes, pumps, or well casing.
What should I test for if I have taste, odor, or staining issues?
- Depending on the type of odor and staining problem you have will determine what parameters should be tested.
- The most common parameters tested for these issues include hydrogen sulfide/sulfate, chloride, iron, manganese, hardness, and lead/copper.
- Our water treatment assessment package includes these parameters and is a good start to determining the cause of the problem.
My bacteria sample failed, what now?
- If your bacteria results are positive, the first step to take is to chlorinate your well.
- Follow this link for instructions on how to chlorinate your well.
- After chlorination, we recommend waiting 7 days before testing for bacteria again.
- You can also contact your local plumber for other forms of action.
